Inspired by the book “I Don't Want to Go Home: An Oral History of the Stone Pony” by Nick Corasaniti
and the documentary “The Jersey Sound.”

Well, the suits forgot how to rock
But you and I never did
We’ve been jamming out without them
Ever since we were kids

We threw concerts in our basements
And we made our records there
Til the bigwigs smelled the bacon
They had no cause to care

And we didn’t ask permission
To see if we could play
We just made our own decision
And did it anyway
DIY
DIY (Do It Yourself!)

Ah, can’t you see me standing here?
I got my back against the copy machine
It’s that time of month to give out
Our local punk magazine

And we make our own dust jackets
For the records that we sell
And we give the crowd our everything
Even when they give us hell

And we still don’t ask permission
To see if we can play
We just make our own decision
And do it anyway
DIY
DIY (Do It Yourself!)

Some parents gave derision
Our parents gave us rides
Supported our ambition
To give this scene a try

And our fans came out of hiding
All punk rock to the bone
Not long til we were riding
On a pony made of stone

It was like a bucking bronco
And it threw us once or twice
We got good at hanging on though
Now it feels like paradise

And we never ask permission
To see if we can play
We just make our own decision
And do it anyway
